About Rules of Engagement Events
Rules of Engagement (ROE) Events is a part of the Hivemind Media company and is dedicated to providing the best conflict simulations in the Republic of Ireland and beyond.
Who are ROE Events and what is Hivemind Media?
Hivemind Media is a non-traditional media company founded by Ronan Lowe and Sean O'Callaghan upon their retirement from the Irish Airsoft Association as acting chairman and public relations officer respectively. Looking for something to do in the airsoft community but wanting to avoid politics as much as possible they founded Hivemind Media Ltd which operates a number of web-based publications as well as the ROE Events division.
What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a modern tag-sport enjoyed by millions the world over. Similar to paintball in it's mechanics but entirely different in its implementation, airsoft is for many about immersing yourself in the role of law enforcement, soldier, special forces or even the bad guys for anything from a few hours to several days of action and adventure – only without having to explain bullet holes in casualty!
Airsoft provides a level of authenticity and interaction unavailable from the more familiar paintball experience with realistic tactics, uniforms, equipment and most importantly the guns!
For more information on the pursuit please visit the Irish Airsoft Association or browse our links section here.
What is “Episodic Gaming”?
Episodic Gaming is the format used for the primary ROE events being run throughout the year at specific locations. Each year the ROE writing staff develop a scenario with an extended plot line which will play out over the years games. The results of each event (victories, defeats, missions surceases and how players react to different situations) will dictate the direction the story arc will take. This means that participants in ROE Events have an unparalleled personal investment in the games as they are played out. Every decision, every hesitation, every shot fired could be critical in determining whether their faction wins or loses the war!
What is “The Jebrovian Conflict”?
The Jebrovian Conflict is the modern story line for the 2009/2010 episodic gaming period. Centered around the fictional nation of Jebrovia the games plot focuses on the conflict between a small Eastern European nation and the might of the combined NATO forces.
Who can play?
Anyone over the age of 14 is welcome to any ROE event but please be aware that MilSim by its very nature requires a willingness to get down and dirty and exert yourself physically. Remember: Airsoft is a “tag-sport” which means other people will be actively trying to shoot you (albeit in a safe and controlled manner) – if you are uncomfortable with this then ROE Events may not be for you.
